TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING CANADA ANNOUNCES RECORD HIGH STUDENT HIRING
Cambridge, Ontario (May 20, 2014) – Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada Inc. (TMMC) announced today that it will employ a record number of students in 2014. Toyota has hired more than 700 students this summer, an increase of 250 over 2013. Students perform hourly production jobs during peak summer vacation schedules from May to September and will be further employed throughout the year.
Toyota’s hourly production and maintenance workforce will swell to about 8,400, the highest ever.
Since 1998, TMMC has provided employment to more than 4,600 local students. The 700 student positions in 2014 are in addition to the more than 120 co-operative education workplace experiences that TMMC provides every year in association with the University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier University and Conestoga College.
TMMC President Brian Krinock said, “We’re pleased to be able to offer so many opportunities to future graduates. The students tell us that they learn real responsibility during their employment at TMMC, and many return to work here for several years. Meanwhile, experienced Team Members appreciate the opportunity to pass their knowledge to new members of our team.”
TMMC currently manufactures the Toyota Corolla, Toyota Matrix, Toyota RAV4 and the Lexus RX 350 and RX 450h vehicles and has two assembly lines in Cambridge, ON and one assembly line in Woodstock, ON.
