Kyle started his career in high school as a co-op student at an automotive supplier. From the start of his co-op, he was intrigued by the robots. He wanted to learn more about them; how to teach them and how to set up the robotic cells. After his co-op, he got an apprenticeship opportunity. While gaining experience with automation, he knew that TMMC’s level of automation would not compare. TMMC was opening the Woodstock plant at the time and once licensed, Kyle pursued his career at TMMC.

What aspects of your current role do you specifically value or appreciate the most?
The drive for continuous improvement and how much TMMC enables the self-starter. The Start Your Impossible methodology is very much a part of your day-to-day life at TMMC. If there is something new he wants to learn, he has the opportunity to go out and grab it.
What is a challenge you experience in your role?
The biggest challenge in my role is when you work in such a large plant, there are always more opportunities to make improvements. I love this about my role, but it can also be a challenge. It creates an excellent environment for learning opportunities but can make it feel like there is always something you are not able to complete.
Describe a successful day at work – what makes it successful for you?
I love fixing breakdowns. There’s nothing more satisfying than troubleshooting a challenging breakdown, having the pressure of the Production line stop and being the person to fix it.
What keeps you motivated in your job?
Self-motivation is what makes him successful. The more he does, the faster the day goes and the more he learns. I always tell new team members that the opportunity is what you make it – if you are eager to learn, this is a great spot to work.
I am also motivated by being a team player and feeling a sense of teamwork. I’ve been a Team Leader for 7 years and have always felt part of the team. Even when I first joined TMMC, I felt the One Toyota family. This is always built into every aspect of the role regardless of title.
Imagine someone is considering a career as an Electrician/Millwright– what would you say to them about why they should work at TMMC?
It’s fast-paced, always changing and developing new technology, and offers stability for its Team Members. The overall compensation and benefits package as an industrial Electrician is not beatable in Ontario, it is the best place to work as an Electrician.
